Sorrento is a small town Landed on a high plateau in region Campania in the South of Italy. It is a very popular tourist place because it is a charming flower-filled town with luxuriant flora and sunny sites, cliff-top settings, unique 13th -15th century churches.
It is very easy to reach Sorrento from Pompeii or Naples, as it located at the south-eastern end of the Circumvesuviana rail line. Sorrento is an entrance to the many sights of the Campania region. A lot viewpoints in the city let see the sights of Naples, Vesuvius and the historic city of Pompeii, the island of Capri and Positano. The narrow road Amalfi Drive connecting Amalfi and Sorrento and stretches along the high cliffs above the Tyrrhenian Sea. Sea cliffs and Luxury hotels of Sorrento have attracted a lot famous persons such as Enrico Caruso and Luciano Pavarotti. At the main harbor of Sorrento - Marina Grande was filmed in movies Sophia Loren. To reach this picturesque place you should walk along the fisherman’s path through the Old Town.
The Sorrento is also well known for its cuisine - fresh fish dishes, calamari, clams, shell fish (often served with homemade pasta Scialatielli), and other seafood. Among desserts maybe the most popular local Pastiera (cake with ricotta cheese, candied fruit and wheat grain). Sorrento is also famous for the production of an alcoholic digestive Limoncello, made from lemon peels, alcohol, sugar and water. Other famous agricultural products include citrus fruit, wine, nuts and olives.
As a good souvenir you can buy inlaid woodwork, intarsia, created in anything from nice small boxes to furniture or handmade embroidery and silk work or splendid jewelry from cameos and corals or ceramics from the Amalfi coastline.
Sorrento is not only the best place for immersing in the Italian language, but a perfect cultural destination.
