Paris is the capital and the most famous city of France. It is situated in northern France on the River Seine at the heart of the Île-de -France region (or the "Paris Region"). Paris is the most important political and cultural centre of Europe and one the most popular tourist objects in the world.

Another name, "the City of Lights", dates from 1828 when Paris first in Europe lighted with gas street lamps its main boulevards, including the Champs-Élysées. And of course Paris is the most romantic city in the world.

Paris has been granted with gifts by the ages – monuments came from a history of 2,000 years. The city is dotted with numerous symbolic monuments. Paris is an absolute living post card, a city full up with places to discover across various districts each with a unique spirit of its own.

As a political and cultural centre of Europe since the Middle Ages, Paris saved many relics of its past. As a centre of international trade Paris hosts headquarters of different international social and trade organizations such as the UNESCO and OECD. Paris is absolutely amazing city where modern business districts such as La Défense situated nearby numerous museums, art galleries and theatres. The city and region contain numerous symbolic landmarks, popular parks and world-famous institutions.

The Paris Region produces over a 1/4 of France’s wealth (GDP of France is almost €450 billion).

Because of its cultural, touristic, political, financial and business activities, Paris is often rated as one of the four major global cities along with Tokyo, New York and London.

Main sights

1. The Louvre - of the largest collection in the world of decorative objects, sculpture and  painting.

2. Cathedral Notre Dame - one of the most stunning cathedrals of Europe, Notre Dame Cathedral's impressive towers, stained glass, spire and statuary will take your breath away.

3. Musée d'Orsay - is the site of modern art from Gaugin, Monet, Degas  to  Delacroix and Van Gogh .

4. The Sorbonne and the Latin Quarter - Sorbonne is the educational center of France and historic heart of the Latin Quarter.

5. Eiffel Tower – is the representation of stylish and modern Paris.

6. Champs-Elysées and the Arc de Triomphe - The arch's incredible reliefs and sculptures memorialize Napoléon's soldiers and generals. Start or finish from the Arc de Triomphe a walk down the absolutely beautiful  Avenue des Champs-Elysées.

7. Centre Georges Pompidou and the "Beaubourg" Neighborhood – it is the cultural pulsation of the city.

8. Sacre Coeur and Montmartre - with its unique white cupola, the Sacre Coeur situated  on the Montmartre hill, or mount that is the highest point of Paris. And after unforgettable strolling Montmartre's hills and stairs, have a rest in the legendary Parisian cabaret Moulin Rouge.

9. Père Lachaise Cemetery - Paris counts many cemeteries that are most known in the world -but Père Lachaise beats them all. The most popular person there- Jim Morrison (The Doors lead singer), Edith Piaf, the French playwright Molière, Richard Wright and Oscar Wilde, and many others.
